Security system benefits
Burglary response
Siren-only alarm systems rarely attract any attention or police response in this day and age due to a large number of unclear false alarms in the past. With a monitored alarm a monitoring station can give both police and the owner a clear indication of why the system is sounding the sirens. If the system reports more than one sensor going into the alarm state, police classify this as reasonable grounds to attend.
Duress code
This code remains secret to the operators of the alarm system. In the worst-case scenario, if an intruder forces you to enter your home and turn off your monitored alarm you can use this code. It will turn off your system as normal but send a silent duress message to the monitoring station instructing them to dispatch police. Police view these calls as a high-priority call of duty.
Duress or panic button feature
A personal attack duress signal is generated by either a dual-press hold up button, dual-press remote controls, or a four-second-press Police key on the code pad. This is also responded to with high-priority attendance by police.
Fire safety
By incorporating a monitored alarm system with a smoke sensor, the system will ensure that you, your home, or your business are protected if you have been affected by smoke inhalation and are unable to get to the phone, or if no-one is on hand to report the outbreak of fire.
Medical
The code pad medical feature saves critical time if you need help immediately. In the event that you’re alone and losing consciousness a four-second push is all that it takes to action the ambulance service.
False-alarm diagnostics
False alarms do happen and monitored alarm systems offer you a better way to diagnose the problem when it occurs. As mentioned above, a monitoring station can give you a clear indication of which sensor is playing havoc with the system, making it easier for the technician to find and address the problem – saving you time and money.
System self-diagnostics
Most people overlook the auto testing and supervising functions that a monitored alarm system performs on itself. In the event of a fault the system will report it to the control room. Examples of faults could be:
- Low back-up battery
- Mains power failure
- Short-circuit problem
- External-siren tampering or fault
